The OzHPV Challenge is fast approaching and you are invited to participate in this annual event to be held in Broadford for the first time. Entries are open to all – you don’t have to be a member of OzHPV to enter (but we’d love you to join!)

OZHPV CHALLENGE 2003 DESCRIPTION OF EVENTS

Hillclimb – A short race up a steep hill. First one to the top is the king (or queen) of the mountain. Low weight and fitness are important.

D & H Enterprises Road Race – The 26-kilometre road race consists of 10 laps around the marked circuit. The start is unassisted. The race ends when the first entrant completes 10 laps. Each further entrant finishes their next lap after the winners tenth lap, the places and laps completed place the remaining contestants. Trisled Time Trial – Riders are released every thirty seconds for a timed single lap of the road race circuit. Riders begin at a standing start. (Sponsors Trisled HPV Manufacturers, ph. 03 59810337 www.trisled.com.au )

MR Components Off-Road Adventure Race – The Off road race has a Le Mans start & is run over a punishing course. Suit mountain bike riders – a real test for the more exotic HPV’s (Sponsors: MR Components Recumbent Trikes ph. 03 5983 5886 www.mrrecumbenttrikes.com )

Greenspeed Shopping Race – The shopping race is a test of the practicality of the vehicles. Vehicles race around a tight and challenging course, stopping to collect and deliver a load of shopping. The shopping race points will be based on both time taken to complete the course and the amount of shopping carried. Riders may carry bags or tow trailers to assist with the shopping. Twin Drag – This 100-metre event will be run on a knock out basis consisting of heats of two competitors. The start is unassisted. Placing will be dependent upon the last heat which the vehicle won.

200m Sprint – An unlimited run up to a set out 200m stretch with timing gates. Points will be awarded in order of fastest times.

Flying Furniture Criterium – The criterium is a quick race with many corners. The field of entrants will be broken into manageable numbers for each heat, and the winners (1st, 2nd, and 3rd) of each heat will compete in the final. Last man out – Held around a short circuit, the person who is last at the end of each lap drops out. Racing continues until there is only one vehicle left!

Dual Slalom – A combination of sprint and slalom ride. Depending on the numbers of competitors, fastest riders/winners of heats go into the finals.

Stuty’s Bakehouse Concourse – A social and display event to be held in the town of Broadford, outside Stuty’s bakehouse in the main street. A great opportunity to grab a delicious breakfast or “2nd Breakfast’ and show off your machine. This event is not for Challenge points but all are invited to participate. There will be prizes for the:

  • Furthest travelled by HPV to attend the event (Chris Hatherly award)
  • Best presented Manufactured HPV
  • Design & Innovation, Manufactured HPV
  • Best presented Owner Built HPV
